With giants like Booking Holding, Expedia Group, and HRS Group dominating the OTA market, the DMA aims to break their stronghold.
The Act introduces measures for increased transparency, data use restrictions, interoperability, and prohibition of unfair practices. Although Booking.com has positioned itself as a non-gatekeeper, the European Commission could challenge this status. The DMA holds significant implications for the hotel industry, potentially empowering hotels to have greater control over online distribution and relationships with OTAs.
